Altar of Our Home

“But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

Joshua 24:15 · ESV

01 · About this resource

Build an altar that reaches generations

This condensed study guide comes from DMI Senior Pastor Paul Yadao’s second session on the first day of the DMI Calamba City 18th Anniversary Leaders Retreat.

It shows how the altar of the home begins with a surrendered heart and becomes a daily culture—shaping our speech, forgiveness, worship, discipline, and the words we speak over the next generation. The goal is not a perfect family image, but a home that honors the presence and Word of God.

02 · Inside the guide

Surrender. Presence. Blessing.

The altar begins in the heart

We are the sacrifice. A life surrendered to God is the first family altar and the source of genuine worship in the home.

The home hosts God’s presence

The Word treasured in the heart shapes the culture of the home. Like Obed-edom’s household, we are called to carry and honor God’s presence according to his ways.

Blessing reaches generations

Strong altars release words that affirm identity, value, calling, and belonging—for biological family and spiritual children alike.

03 · Put it into practice

Return to the altar as a household

The guide includes Scripture studies, heart questions, an altar inventory, a household declaration, a five-part family blessing practice, and a guided prayer. Read it alone, with your family, or in a leadership group, then choose one ordinary rhythm where you can practice the Word and prayer together.

The altar of the home is built in ordinary moments: repenting quickly, speaking truthfully, forgiving generously, praying through tears, disciplining with love, and blessing people by name.
