Wrestling with God

“I will not let you go unless you bless me.”

Genesis 32:26 · NIV

01 · About this resource

A call to stay in God’s presence

This condensed study guide comes from a preaching shared by DMI Senior Pastor Paul Yadao on the first day of the DMI Calamba City 18th Anniversary Leaders Retreat.

Through Jacob’s wrestling with God at Peniel, it invites us to leave self-reliance behind and seek God’s face. Wrestling is not a way to force God into our desires; it is staying before him until our hearts come into agreement with his.

02 · Inside the guide

Surrender. Identity. Reconciliation.

Christ formed in us

The goal is not becoming impressive, but allowing Christ to be formed in us through a surrendered life.

A new name and posture

Before God, Jacob leaves behind his old identity and receives a new name—and a humbler way of walking.

Grace for generations

An encounter with God opens a way for forgiveness, reconciliation, and grace that reaches those who come after us.

03 · Make time for it

Read, pause, and pray

The guide includes Scripture studies, reflection questions, a personal inventory, and a guided prayer. Read it slowly on your own or with a leadership group, allowing its prayers to become your own response before God.

Take this with you

The deepest blessing is the face of God. In surrender, we receive identity, a new posture, and grace to pass on to others.
